Tiger Wrestling Team Takes on Trinity

The Tiger Wrestling team will face off tomorrow against the Shamrocks in the Wills Arena tomorrow at 7:00 PM. The team is currently ranked #2 in the state according to KentuckyWrestling.com, while Trinity comes into the dual unranked.

This year, St.X has far and away been the best team in the Louisville area. They have won a couple of meets this year including: The Dragon Invitational, the Firebird Classic, the Ryle Rumble, the Jefferson County Tournament of Champions, and most recently the State Duals.

This will be students’ one big chance to catch the wrestlers in action this year, so be sure to support the squad tomorrow. Your very own Student Activities Council will provide a growl towel for every student that comes to support the team. Get out and get rowdy!

Coach Kraeszig and the defending state champion Tiger Wrestling team traveled to Lexington this weekend in hopes of recapturing another title. With one wrestler qualified for each weight class, the team was poised for another great day on the mat.

Austin Cook (34-11) placed 5th in the 106 lbs. weight class after losing in the Championship Semifinals. A.J. Binder (39-7) placed 8th in the 113 lbs. weight class, Michael Beets (35-13) finished 7th in the 120 lbs. weight class, Dallas Miles (21-11) placed 7th in the 126 lbs. weight class, Max Korfhage (40-13) was upset in the 2nd round by Blake Gamble of Johnson Central and did not place. Nathan Haddad, Nick Smart, Calieb Ray, Luke Esterle, Elijah Allgeier, Joseph Green and Daniel Sheridan took early exits after losing by decision, but fought hard through the consolation brackets to earn team points for the Tigers.

The story of the day was the Lampe brothers winning each of their respective state championship titles. Justin (49-1) capped off an amazing season and career as a Tiger placing first and racking up 32.50 team points. He pinned the last three wrestlers he faced including his state championship opponent, Jon Green from Lafayette, at the 1:19 mark of the first period. Justin was 100-1 during his last two seasons as a Tiger and 51-0 last year as a junior.

The very next match, his brother, Dominic (42-3) defeated Simon Kenton’s freshman Casey Cornett 10-4 capping off an incredible day for Tiger Wrestling.

Final Team Scores
1. Union County 203.0
2. Campell County 189.5
