Tiger basketball will host the Brown School Bears right now in the Wills Center. The Tiger are looking to bounce back from a five point loss to Simon Kenton on Sunday. It’s almost Christmas time, so read Coach Klein’s letter to Santa that probably also includes a win today against the visiting Bears.
On an unusual Tuesday evening, Tiger Soccer took on district opponent Brown High School. The game began at 5:00 PM, a much earlier starting time than St. X is accustomed to.
However, it didn’t seem to phase the Tigers. They banged home 10 goals in 70 minutes to force a mercy-rule decision over the Bears.
The scoring didn’t take off immediately, though, as the halftime score read 2-0 in favor of St. X.
But an eight-goal flurry in the second half put the bears away and allowed the Tigers to go home a little but early.
Junior midfielder Andrew Schnurr and senior defenseman Nick Schrage got the two first half goals, but then junior midfielder Nick Eimers put one in the back of the net in the 44th minute, Matthew Burruss scored in the 48th, Matthew Phelan scored in the 51st, Eric Brangers scored in the 58th, Thomas Doerr scored in the 62nd, Matthieu “Butch” Tapolsky scored in the 63rd, and Connor Sullivan scored in the 66th.
Senior midfielder Austin Goodman put the icing on the cake, pushing one past the Bears’ goalkeeper in the 70th minute to end the contest.
For a team that has largely struggled producing offense this season, it must have felt good to put a 10 on the scoreboard at Brother Thomas More Stadium.
After the game was over, junior midfielder Colin Kremer expressed his pleasure in the final result in a tweet.
St. X is back in action next week, as the Tigers will take on Atherton next Monday at 7:00 PM on their home turf.
