This week, the Tigers will take on the Bowling Green Purples in what will surely be a great game to be at. Two years ago, when the Purples visited the Tigers, the Rage Cage took on Patriotic Night which will once again be theme for Friday night. The Purples have dominated the Tigers in recent action, but that could change this year.
Bowling Green has started their season with two straight blowout wins and probably couldn’t have started more comfortably. The Purples have a trio of juniors that could cause the Tigers fits in wide receiver DeAngelo Wilson, quarterback Clark Payne and running back Jamele Carothers. Throw in senior running back Jacob Yates, and you have a very solid attack on offense.
As for the Purple’s defense, Safeties Tre Fant and Griffin Cline are ball hawks who have already combined for three interceptions so far this year. Fant returned one for a touchdown last week against Christian County. Cline also is one of the Purple’s leading tacklers with 10 tackles. The Tigers also must watch out for Dalan Cofer who has had 2.5 sacks in the first two games.
The game will start at a later time than usual for St. X, as the game will kickoff at 8:00 pm EST. This is due to Bowling Green having to travel from central time and giving them enough time to get up to Louisville after school.
Tiger Football will have to play an almost perfect game to pull off the upset Friday night. The Purples really have controlled this series in recent years, but if the Tigers were to beat them in a one game situation, Friday night might be the night to do it. Brother Thomas More Stadium will be rocking with Patriotic Night in full force, and it could lead to a magical atmosphere.
We hope to see you at the came, cheering on the Tigers in person, but if you can’t make it, you can get live coverage on Twitter by following @WSTXSports and @TigerSports_TV. We’ll get you the radio information as soon as we hear, so you can listen to John Spears and Tony Burke on the call of what hopefully will be a big Tiger Football victory.
