Tiger Track and Field places 4th at Taco Bell Classic

The Tiger Track and Field team traveled down to Columbia, South Carolina this past weekend to take place in the 2015 Taco Bell Classic. The Tigers competed with some of the best in the South, and they walked away with a fourth place finish, the best finish ever for St. X at the Taco Bell Classic.

The Tigers opened up the scoring weekend Friday night during the 4 x 800 meter relays. The Tiger 4 x 800 meter relay team of Matthew Thomas, Ben Kleine-Kracht, Eli George and William Mulloy were gunning for the school record (7:52), and they came very close to completing their goal. The Tigers won the event with a great time of 7:54.72. That time puts them at #15 in the nation and one second away from qualifying for New Balance Nationals Outdoor (NBNO).

The next day, both Mulloy and Thomas scored in the 1 mile run. Mulloy placed 2nd with a time of 4:19, and Thomas placed 8th with a time of 4:23, a new PR for him. Considering it was a packed field, they both ran good races and brought the team 9 points. NBNO qualifying time for one mile is 4:13.

Over in the Shot Put, Jake Glass a heck of a day, as he threw a 58-03.75. It was a personal record throw for him, and he finished 3rd in a great field. This throw places him at 30th in the nation. Also with this throw, he qualifies to go to NBNO with the qualifying throw being 55-07.

The Tiger Track and Field team has gotten off to a good start at the Taco Bell Classic in Columbia, South Carolina. After the first day, the Tigers are tied for first with Marvin Ridge High School (Waxhaw, NC) at 10 points.

The 10 points the Tigers got on day one came from a great race by the 4 x 800 meter relay team. The relay team of Matthew Thomas, Ben Kleine-Kracht, Eli George and William Mulloy won the race with a time of 7:54.72. They are very close to the Kentucky state record of 7:52 and qualifying for New Balance Outdoor Nationals (7:53).

After a week of training in Louisville, the Tiger Track and Field Team will travel down to Columbia, South Carolina for the start of the Taco Bell Classic. The Taco Bell Classic is one of the more prestigious meets in the South, and the Tigers will try and leave their mark.
