KYTrackXC.com talked to Cross Country Head Coach, Coach Medley, about this upcoming season and his career up to this point.
What has been your most memorable team championship in cross-country? Most memorable individual championship?
My most memorable team championship was our regional championship in 1998, my first year, when we defeated defending state champion Trinity.
Trinity went 1, 2, 3 we went 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 with a 16 second gap and beat them 30 points to 33 points.
My most memorable state championship was 2012 when we 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 scoring positions and tied the state championship low score of 20 points and a 9 second 1-5 gap.
My most memorable individual championship was Connor Sheryak finishing first in 2011.
What would it mean to your young men, and to you personally, to become the first Class AAA team to win four consecutive cross-country state titles this fall?
It would mean a lot to them, and they are working very hard to achieve that goal.
Whatever happens, happens, as long as they continue to work hard and do the best they can at state meet, I will be satisfied and very proud of them.

Earlier this week we asked you to go and vote for Spencer Hayden and William Mulloy to be named the best returning cross country runner in Kentucky. Wiliam Mulloy was announced today as the winner, and it wasn’t even close. A big congratulations to William as well as a big thank you to Tiger Nation for helping William secure the victory! We Are!
The St. Xavier senior was the 2014 Class AAA 1600m State Champion and at the KY Dream Mile ran a new best converted 1600m time of 4:10.94 which stands #4 All-Time in Kentucky. He showed his 5k prowess last spring by winning the KYtrackXC.com 5K Showdown with a 15:05.07.
KYtrackXC.com is trying to decide who will take over the best boy runner in the state of Kentucky, and they are putting it to a vote. There are 16 names to vote for and also an “other” answer if you believe you know someone better who is not on the list. St. X was one of 3 schools to have more than one name, with the others being South Oldham and Cooper. It is a blind vote, and the results will be revealed at a later date.
Head on over and vote for your Tigers!
KYtrackXC.com released their pre-season region and state virtual meets today. The virtual meets are purely based off each runner’s average times from the 2013 season.
The projections point to St. X dominating Region 3 AAA once again. How dominating? Well you can look below to see.
The pre-season virtual meet also projects the 2014 State Championship. Cooper and Trinity are the Tigers biggest competition but based on last year’s average times, the Tigers are the favorites to win it for the 4th straight time.
In the virtual meet, Spencer Hayden placed 5th, William Mulloy placed 8th, Ben Glover 14th, Ben Kleine-Kracht 17th and Andrew Garvey 22nd. Henry Geisler placed 27th, Tyler Just placed 28th and Matthew Thomas placed 29th.
St. X won the team race with 66 points. Cooper placed 2nd with 100 points, and Trinity placed 3rd with 161 points.
KYtrackXC.com released their Top 25 Most Popular Athletes from the past year based on most viewed athlete pages. No. 13 Jake Glass and No. 14 William Mulloy represented St. Xavier on the list. The running programs for the Tigers had a great year with the help of another state championship coming from Cross Country and a 3rd place finish by Track at State.
St. Xavier was only one of two schools to have more than one athlete make the list (South Oldham’s Dowdy Twins were the others). Jacob Thomson (Holy Cross/NC State) took the top spot for the second straight year, and Patrick Gregory of Butler had the 2nd most viewed athlete page.
13. Jake Glass
14. William Mulloy
