The Tiger Soccer team only led for a total of 37 seconds but that’s all they needed, as the Tigers pulled out the 2-1 thriller over Daviess County on Saturday afternoon. Seniors Trent Stigler and Colin Kremer led the way for the Tigers in the scoring department in the 55th and 79th minute, respectively.
“We got a week full of games coming up and two good wins in a row right there,” Kremer said. “They’re top 10 ten in the state, so it was good to take them down on our home field.”
The Tigers had multiple opportunities in the early portion of the game to score a goal, but the Daviess County goalie was able to keep the shots in front of him. Junior Sam Graber had a great shot on goal in the 23rd minute and forced the Panthers’ goalie to make a good save. Six minutes later though, it was Daviess County who scored the first goal of the game. The Panthers led St. X 1-0 in the 29th minute.
With time running down late in the first half, Kremer ripped a shot from 25 yards out, but it went left of the goal. Daviess County took the lead going into halftime up 1-0.
In the 55th minute, Stigler scored the equalizer off a Penalty Kick to tie the game up at one. When it hit the 70th minute, everything seemed to speed up, as both teams tried to find the game winning goal. Kremer was the one to find the back of the net in the 79th minute for the game winner and to give St. X the 2-1 win.
“I saw Bennett Moorman dribbling down the field, and he got tangled up with one of their defenders,” Kremer said. “They both went down, and I took over. I missed a breakaway earlier in the game, so I wanted to make that one.”
Tiger Soccer moves to 2-1 on the season.
