Tiger Nation, playoff football is finally here. Coach Wolford’s squad finished the regular season with an impressive 8-2 record, but they aren’t done yet. The road to state begins tonight against the Manual Crimsons. The two teams have already met once this year, with the Tigers coming out on top 56-34 on the road. Let’s take a look at what you should expect from St. X tonight:
Junior Keegan Sullivan will be making his first career start at quarterback. Jack Albers suffered a minor injury last week against Cincinnati St. Xavier and will not play tonight. Sullivan has played well in his reserve role this year, so the Tiger offense is in good hands. He is more of a pocket passer, as opposed to Albers, a dual-threat QB. In the last matchup with Manual, Will Crum and the other receivers tore up a weak Crimson secondary, so do not be surprised if you see the Tiger offense take advantage of Sullivan’s passing ability.
Running backs Dominic Allgeier and Anthony Moretti also had strong showings against the Crimsons earlier this year and will try to replicate these contributions. An early rushing attack will help Sullivan settle in and will also open up the passing game.
The defense allowed a season-high 34 points against Manual in the first matchup, but expect a lockdown performance this evening. Andrew Uhls and and Connor Schaefer will be manning the trenches while Sam Boarman and Jake Netherton will be leading the secondary. If St. X wants to make a deep playoff run, the defense will need to continue to play well.
From this point forward, it is win or go home, so come out and support the Tigers!
