Scouting Report | Trinity Basketball
Hello Tiger Nation! Your very own Tiger Basketball team will be taking on the Trinity Shamrocks this Friday at Broadbent Arena. The Shamrocks this year have been on top of their game, and are currently one of the top ranked teams in the state. Let’s get to know a little more about what we’re up against and what the keys for the Tigers will be to pull off a major upset.
Head Coach: Mike Szabo
Notable Wins: Fern Creek, Buford (GA), Covington Catholic
Players to Watch: David Johnson, David Burton, Jay Scrubb, Lucas Burkman, Jacob King*
*To my knowledge, King, a Campbellsville University commit, has been out most of the season with injury. Not sure what his timetable is, or if he will even be playing in the game.
Keys to Victory:
- Rebounding – The Tigers have out-rebounded most of their opponents due to a huge size advantage. The Tigers will still have the size advantage against Trinity, but the Shamrocks are the most athletic team they will face all year. The Tigers can’t allow Trinity to win on the glass and get extra scoring opportunities.
- Transition Defense – Again, Trinity is super athletic and fast this year. They have a couple of high-flyers, and the Tigers will not want to allow them to make any energizing plays for their defense to feed off of.
- Limiting Turnovers – James Taylor and the rest of the backcourt has done a pretty good job up to this point in handling the ball. However, in the games the team has struggled, they’ve had silly turnovers that have killed their offensive flow. The Tigers need to be on their A-game in this facet of the game.
The Tigers come into the game with the opportunity to pull off one of the biggest upsets in this series’ history. They’ll be the underdog in this one, but don’t expect them to go down without a fight, especially in a rivalry game.
