The Dream Mile is an annual race in Kentucky that hosts the best girls and boys one milers in the state. It is by far one of the most competitive races of the year among the high school ranks in Kentucky and in the nation.
Although it was the day of the Kentucky Oaks, current University of Kentucky runner Matthew Thomas saved the best race two hours and forty one minutes after Cathryn Sophia had won her race.
Thomas was seeded fourth in the race, and was coming off of an injury. No one was really sure what to expect. But after placing fifth at the race last year, Thomas knew that he was going to go out and try to win this.
He went on to deliver his best race of the year. He trailed behind the leader for nearly three laps, but he finally took the lead on the final lap and finished first with a time of 4:13.80.
