#4 Tiger Football Makes Biggest Comeback in 6A Football History
With the year coming to a close, we take time to reminisce on the past year in sports. 2016 has been filled with countless games, memories, and championships that have added to the legacy of St.X’s athletic excellence. Now, as the crystal ball counts down to midnight, WSTX Sports would like to do a countdown of our own over the next few days. Let’s countdown the Top 10 Moments in Tiger Sports for the year of 2016!
The 2016 Tiger Football team had the most memorable season in recent memory. Going undefeated in their district, and making it to the state semi-finals. Both were firsts since the 2009 State Championship team.
However, the season did not look so promising after the first quarter and a half of the team’s first regular season game.
The score was 28-0 and Lexington Catholic had just scored off of a ninety yard pick six. The Tigers looked sluggish and weren’t executing in all facets of the game. But like many times this season, the Taylor twins lighted a fire in the team. Sam would go on to finish with nearly 250 yards rushing and two touchdowns, while Jake would finish with two interceptions and a fumble recovery.
Sam Taylor got the scoring going with a 1 yard touchdown with 4:55 to play in the second quarter. The defense made a few stops and gave Owen Johnson good field position to knock in a field goal before the end of the first half. The score was 28-10 after the second quarter.
The Tigers would not take the lead until late in the fourth quarter, a two-yard rush by Jack Albers, and he then proceeded to hit Mack Blincoe for the two-point conversion. Sam Taylor put in the dagger on a 10 yard rush with 1:50 to play.
In the win over Lex Cath, the Tigers scored 42 UNANSWERED POINTS en route to the biggest comeback in St.X and 6A Football History.
