District Game #4
Butler High School
With a win tonight, the Tigers could go undefeated in their district for the first time since 2009. This would be a huge feat, as our district is by far the toughest in the state of Kentucky. While Butler has not won a game in the district, they are very athletic and have some kids who can flat-out play. In any other district, they would be competing for a title every year, so they are not to be overlooked.
Last week goes to show that when the Tigers get the run game going, the offense is nearly impossible to stop. Taylor and Ridder weren’t able to get much going in the first half, but after solid stops by the defense in the second (and a little confidence boost from the Hail Mary), the duo were able to move things along. The two combined for 193 rushing yards. The run game will remain the key player to the Tigers’ offensive success.
I mentioned how the defense really stepped up in the second half last week against Male, so the goal this week will be to carry out that same success against Butler the whole game. Butlers quarterback Blake Showalter has proven to be the focal point of the Bears offense, so stalling him will be pivotal for the Defense.
Overall, the Tigers will just need to work on coming out of the gate much faster. The last few games, both sides of the ball have had trouble getting things going, and eventually finding themselves in a hole. Obviously, things have still worked out, but as we approach the end of the regular season, working on a faster start is going to immensely benefit the team.
