Tiger Golf wins 3rd straight title
The Tiger Golf team continued their streak of dominance, winning their 3rd straight consecutive State Championship. The team led both days, and posted a total score of 606. The team won by 11 shots over 2nd place Greenwood.
Senior Clay Amlung (and recent Cincinnati commit) led the way for the Tigers with a two-day score of 2 under, tying for second. Amlung was followed by Will Fowler (+10), Andrew Hinkebein (+11), Jay Kirchdorfer (+12), and Campbell Kremer (+16).
- Saint Xavier (+30)
- Greenwood (+41)
- Trinity (+46)
- Ryle (+48)
- Taylor County (+52)
T2nd Clay Amlung (-2)
T25th Will Fowler (+10)
T27th Andrew Hinkebein (+11)
T32nd Jay Kirchdorfer (+12)
T51st Campbell Kremer (+16)
Amlung commented on the team’s mindset coming in:
“We had a lot of momentum going in from the Regional Tournament where we scored our best tournament of the year, shooting even par. The team worked off that going into state. We split the tournament into two different days and acted like we were trying to win two different tournaments and in doing that we would hopefully come out with the win.”
That you did, Clay, that you did. From start to finish they led, and then won pretty convincingly. The Tiger Golf team had to prove all season that they could reload, after having no returning members from the record-breaking state team from last year. Well, they proved it, winning their 21st overall title and the first state championship of the school year.
Don’t think Tiger Nation will be slowing down this year… we are just getting started.
