Gameday Central | Trinity
Saint Xavier Tigers (4-1) vs. Trinity Shamrocks (6-0)
Friday, September 30th
Papa Johns Cardinal Stadium
The time has finally come. In a few hours, over 30,000 people will pack into Papa Johns Cardinal Stadium to watch the most anticipated high school game in the country. The Tigers will have a lot of opportunities tonight.
The Tigers have the opportunity to defeat the #1 ranked team in the state and #18 ranked team in the country, they have the opportunity to snap a four-game losing streak and avenge a heart-breaking loss last year, to sweep the Shamrocks at all levels, and to prove to everyone that the Tigers are still a powerhouse in the state of Kentucky.
That being said, the road to accomplishing these things will not come easy. Trinity is a tough team, and the key to this game will be controlling the line of scrimmage. The Tigers O-Line will have a lot of work to do against a gritty front line for Trinity. The Trinity defense has allowed just 72.4 rushing yards per game, while the Tigers are averaging about 260 yards rushing per game. Desmond Ridder and Sam Taylor will need to make some plays early to pressure the Defense, and open up the passing game. However, the receiving core has taken a hit with the devastating injury of senior Wide Receiver Blake Roshkowski, who tore his other ACL on the opening kickoff against PRP. The other starting receivers in Cameron Garrett and Michael Meredith will need to step it up when given the chance to make a play.
The Tiger Defense is facing an offense that is every bit as good, if not better, than the Bowling Green Offense they faced off against in Week 2. The objective remains the same: win in the trenches. The senior trio of Kyle Robinson, Max Willinger, and Ryan Adams are going up against a battered Trinity O-Line, which should help their cause. If they can bottle up the run game, expect the Tigers to come out with a victory.
