Scouting Report | Trinity Shamrocks
Hello, Tiger Nation! We all know what week it is. The Tiger Football team will square off against that team on Shelbyville Road in the most anticipated high school football game in the nation. Trinity has been deemed as the best team in the state, but I don’t think that’ll matter too much as Friday Night comes around. The Tigers still have some bad taste in their mouths after the playoff loss to Trinity last year, and are looking for some major payback.
Colors: Green and White
Location: 4011 Shelbyville Rd, Louisville, KY 40207
Head Coach: Bob Beatty
Players to Watch: Spencer Blackburn (QB), Roderick Thomas (RB), Stephen Herron (DE), Zyan Bethel (CB), Jermaine Jackson (DL), Luke Eskins (SS), Noah Ellison (WR)
Record: 6-0; last game they won 70-0 over Jeffersontown
Last week, Trinity demolished Jeffersontown 70-0. The Shamrocks put up 56 points alone in the first half. The Trinity Offense has put up big numbers, led by dual-threat senior quarterback Spencer Blackburn. Blackburn has a plethora of weapons, starting with his partner in the backfield Roderick Thomas. Thomas has a quick first step, and will be tough to catch if he gets to the outside. Blackburn also has a number of receivers that he has been able to throw to, notably senior Noah Ellison.
The Trinity Defense has proven itself to be one of the better defenses in the state, highlighted by the shutout they posted last week. They have aggressive and athletic players who cover the whole field well. I believe the most interesting matchup will be down in the trenches between the Rocks D-Line and the Tigers O-Line. Trinity’s star defensive end Stephen Herron will be the one to watch for the Defense.
Ultimately, the Tiger Offense will need to be able to take some shots downfield if they want to open up running lanes for Ridder and Taylor. Similarly, the Tiger Defense has done a great job all year stopping the run, but will they be able to do the same thing when the ball is in the air?
Just a few more days until we find out.
