Gameday Central | Bowling Green
St. Xavier Tigers (1-0) at Bowling Green Purples (2-0)
Friday, September 2nd
Varsity Game – 8:00 PM
El Donalsdon Stadium
Bowling Green, KY
The Tiger Football Team will travel down I-65 to take on the Bowling Green Purples for their second game of the season. The Tigers are coming off of a remarkable victory at Lexington Catholic, but the team can’t come out slow like they did last week if they want to beat a good Bowling Green team.
The key for the Tiger Offense will be to get the running game established early in the game. Sam Taylor carried the offense for almost the whole game last week, and if he can play similarly to last week, this should open up some gaps for the passing game. Jack Albers will need to be on his A-game, taking some shots when they are given, but primarily playing as a game-manager.
The Tiger Defense will have a tough task in front of them. The Bowling Green Offense features nine returning starters from last year, one of whom is a good bet for KY Mr. Football in runningback Jamale Carothers. Look for another big game in cornerback Jake Taylor; if he can limit the passing game by the Purples, it’s going to be tough for them to keep relying on Carothers the whole game.
The X-factor this year, much like last year, will be special teams. Many would say that the Tigers were able to win so handily last year due to special teams play. Blake Roshkowski scored on a punt return for a touchdown and took the opening kickoff to the house last year, and the Tigers are poised to produce similar results. Whoever wins special teams this game, will be ultimately be the winner of this game.
