Louisville Catholic Sports: St. X has a seventh title on its mind
When the Tiger Baseball team takes the field against Greenup County tonight at 6:00, it will be the fifth time in the last six years that the Tigers play in the State Baseball Tournament. Two years ago, St. X ended a long drought by winning the 2014 State Championship, their sixth title in program history. This year, they go for number seven.
Paul Najjar of Louisville Catholic Sports wrote about St. X’s journey to this year’s state tournament.
Compared to their lofty standards, this year’s Tigers may have the look of an average team sporting a 25-12 record and No. 7 state ranking in the Kentucky Prep Baseball Report rankings, but this team found its stride in mid-May and have been plowing through the competition ever since.
“We knew we had a lot of talent on this team and we worked real hard in the offseason,” Fischer, the team’s co-No. 1 starting pitcher, said. “Even though we struggled a little this year, we knew we were a better team than our record indicated. We play great competition to help us get to this point and be prepared for the regional and state tournaments.”
