So, Waggener, What Have You Been Doing?

The Tiger Basketball team faces Waggener Tuesday night in the first game of the 7th Region Tournament at the Brother John Willis Activities Center. Let’s take a look at what the Waggener Wildcats have been up to in Region play since the Tigers lost to them 49-53 on December 15. “So, Waggener, What Have You Been Doing?”

*Ballard (at Fairdale) – LOSSThe Wildcats fell to the Bruins by 13 a week after beating the Tigers.

*Christian Academy-Louisville (at Valley)- WINWaggener got their first win in the new year over a region opponent on January 11 when they defeated CAL 61-47 at Valley.

*Ballard (at Valley) – LOSSWaggener fell to Ballard for a second time on January 13 in the Louisville Invitational Tournament. This time they lost by 10.

*Christian Academy-Louisville (away) – WIN. Waggener responded to the Ballard loss with their second win over CAL in the month of January.

*Trinity (away) – LOSS. Waggener kept it close, but the Shamrocks were too much for the Wildcats, as they fell to Trinity 40-49.

*Seneca (away) – WIN. Waggener once again responded after a loss. Waggener defeated Seneca 75-60.

*Central (home) – WIN. Waggener dominated Central at home, as they cruised to a 64-41 win.

*Male (away) – LOSS. The Wildcats once again kept it close but once again fell to a top team in the region by single digits. Male won 77-71.

*Eastern (home) – WIN. Waggener defeated Eastern in their last regular season game of the year by a score of 47-41.

*Seneca (away) – WIN. The Wildcats opened up their postseason with a win by 22 points over Seneca on the road.

*Trinity (at Seneca) – LOSS. Waggener lost to Trinity again but this time only by 2 points.

Although Waggener is coming off a loss to Trinity in their last game, they are not to be taken lightly. The Wildcats defeated St. X in December and with them keeping games vs. Male and Trinity close, they will have plenty of confidence going into Tuesday night’s big game. The winner of this game will play the winner of the Eastern and Manual. All eight teams in Region 7 have a chance to win this tournament, and Waggener is no different. Like St. X, Waggener also gets to avoid Ballard, Male and Trinity until the finals of the tournament. Every team in the region believes they can make it to Rupp, so it will take a full effort to beat Waggener on Tuesday.
