Read all about Justin Thomas’ first PGA Tour win
Former Tiger Justin Thomas won his first PGA Tour tournament this morning, as he won the CIMB Classic. Thomas shot -26 for the tournament and edged out Adam Scott. Thomas will travel back to the USA from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia $1.3 million richer.
Here is a rundown of what the national media is saying about Thomas’ first PGA Tour win:
Justin Thomas overcame a double bogey on the 14th and some nervous moments on the final hole Sunday to win theCIMB Classic for his first PGA Tour title.
The 22-year-old American holed a 6-foot par putt on the par-5 18th for a one-stroke victory over Australian star Adam Scott. Thomas shot a 6-under 66 for a tournament-record 26-under 262 total at Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club.
In his rookie campaign last season, Thomas showed signs a victory was coming, but he often flailed on Sunday’s, owning the 79th best final-round scoring average on Tour. However, Thomas said on Sunday that he told himself that it would eventually be his time.
“I understand that we’re in a sport where your winning percentage isn’t in your favor,” he said, “and I put myself there a bunch, and I just need to keep doing so and when moments like this can happen.”
It appears the youth movement shaking up the PGA Tour is here to stay. After a season in which we saw Jordan Spieth win two majors and the Player of the Year Award, his good friend Justin Thomas beat out Adam Scott by a single shot in Malaysia on Sunday to claim his first PGA Tour victory.
Justin Thomas’ professional claim to fame to this point has been a Twitter hashtag, #JSGB. It wasn’t a slur, but neither was it flattering for its connotation of reflected glory.
Well, Thomas remains Jordan Spieth’s Good Buddy, but now he also is a PGA Tour winner. Finally.
