Former Tiger Justin Thomas has had quite the first two rounds at the CIMB Classic in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Thomas shot 68 on Thursday but followed that performance with an 11 under par 61 Friday. His 61 on Friday was a new course record with his nine birdies and eagle.
Thomas currently is in the lead by 1 shot, as he sits at -15. Brendan Steele is in 2nd at -14, and Spencer Levin, Scott Piercy and Kideki Matsuyama are tied for 3rd at -13.
“It was obviously a great day,” Thomas told reporters on Friday. “It was one of those days when you kind of get unconscious and get rolling out there. They don’t happen too often.”
Thomas had his eye on a final score of 59 with three holes to go. “I would say after I birdied 14, 15, I knew I just needed to get two of my last three. They’re all pretty easy holes. They’re all wedge holes.”
Thomas will look to win his first tournament of his pro career on the PGA Tour on Saturday and Sunday.
