Tiger Soccer wins 2-1 over Martha Layne Collins
Tiger Soccer took care of business Monday night, as they defeat Martha Layne Collins 2-1. The Tigers have a big match with duPont Manual on Wednesday night, but were able to stay focused on the game Monday. Seniors Trent Stigler and Graham Reynolds scored.
“We can work on our marking in the middle,” Stigler said. ” We can still get better at controlling the game, and we just need to play well start to finish. Our subs have to come on and keep the intensity high, keep the level high and even raise the game if they can.”
It was a half of scoreless soccer between St. X and Collins, as the two went into halftime tied at 0. Stigler found the back of the net in the 45th minute to break open the game. Three minutes later, Stigler kicked the ball towards the left side of the goal, and Reynolds headed it in for another goal in what would be the final goal of the night for the Tigers.
Collins attempted to make a comeback after they scored in the 69th minute to trim the Tigers lead down to one score. Collins had a couple more attempts at a goal, but senior goalie Davis George kept the ball in front of him for the rest of the game.
“As Coach says, we focus on the next game and put the past behind us,” Stigler said. “We comeback and play our hardest and try to get the W.”
