Flashback: Tiger Football vs. Central

The Tigers will look to defeat the Yellowjackets for the 9th straight year when Tiger Football travels to Central Friday night. The Tigers are coming off a big win against Bowling Green, and the Yellowjackets picked up their first win of the season against CAL last Friday. This should be a fun one.

The Tigers dominated the Yellowjackets last year in a 46-6 romp. Runningback Taijon Smith led the way for the Tiger’s offense, as he ran for 95 yards on 16 carries and 2 touchdowns. It was a very strong rushing attack that night, as eight Tiger carried the ball at least once. Trace Amshoff and Jackie Arnold both had interceptions on the night.

Lenny Lyles (Central 1950-1952) – Lyles was a defensive back who played 12 seasons in the NFL with both the Baltimore Colts and the San Francisco 49ers. Lyles started in Super Bowl III for the Baltimore Colts. Lyles went to the University of Louisville where he broke the school’s color barrier for scholarship athletes. Lyles remains Louisville’s all-time scoring leader for a non-kicker with 300 points.

The Tigers has dominated the series with Central, and it should be a lot of the same on Friday night. The Tigers defeated Central at home last year 46-6, so you have to think it will somewhat of the same this year too especially with them coming into the game at 1-2. I have been off so far on my predictions with picking two close games (thankfully they weren’t), but I am going to go with a major blowout this week. St. X 53, Central 10.

Go Tigers!
