Tiger Soccer knocks off Ballard 2-0
The Tiger Soccer team returned home Wednesday night from a road trip to St. Louis. The Tigers picked up right where they left off and defeated Ballard 2-0. Junior Sam Graber and sophomore Gus Chandler scored the goals for the Tigers Wednesday.
“As they always say, the defense starts from the forwards and the forwards were all pressing the ball,” senior Goalie Davis George said. “It was a group effort. Everyone was pressing and trying to trap the ball.”
The first half was scoreless, but the best chance for either team in the first half to score came in the 39th minute when Lucas Mudd missed a shot just wide of the goal. The Tigers came out of halftime looking for a goal, and they got it in the 42nd minute when Graber put the ball in the top right corner for the score.
The Tigers controlled possession from there on out and added to their score in the 67th minute with a goal by Chandler. That was Chandler’s first varsity goal of his career.
This win comes after a disappointing 7-2 loss to St. Louis University High School on Saturday. It ended a six game winning streak for the Tigers.
“I think we responded really well,” George said. “St. Louis is a great team. The loss kind of shook our confidence. We were riding pretty high and that really shook us. We came to practice Tuesday, and we worked very very hard. I think it paid off tonight, as I feel like I barely touched the ball tonight. They showed us our weaknesses. We needed to know that with state tournament coming up. We need to know them and that’s perfect because now we can perfect them and play how we are supposed to play.”
