Bowling Green Purples

Game details: Sept. 4 (Friday), 8:00 PM, Brother Thomas More Stadium

Coach: Kevin Wallace (19th Season)

Last year: 11-2; lost to Graves County in Class 5A Region 1 Championship

Player to watch: Junior quarterback Clark Payne (6-foot-2, 170 pounds) has been the leader for the Purples on the field so far this season. He has thrown for 5 touchdowns and 262 yards through 2 games. Running back Jamele Carothers and Wide Receiver DeAngelo Wilson have also had multiple touchdowns so far this year, but Payne will dictate the pace of play for the Purples. Stop Payne; stop the Purples.

Season vibe: The Purples have started their season off with two straight blowout wins against Monroe County and Christian County. Bowling Green is once again one of the favorites to win the Class 5A State Championship and was listed as the 3rd best team in the entire state in The Courier Journal’s Jason Frakes’ power rankings this week. The Purples lost in the Region Championship last year, so they will be out for blood this season, as they look to reclaim their spot at the top of 5A.
