Friday night, the Tiger Football team will play their first game of the season season against the Henry Clay Blue Devils at Lexington Catholic High School.  The night’s featured game is a part of the Bluegrass Bowl which was established in 1995. According to the Lexington Catholic website, the Bowl’s objective is to showcase the excellent quality of high school football in the state of Kentucky. The Tigers will play at 6:15 PM against Henry Clay.

This is not the first time the Tiger Football program has played in the Bluegrass Bowl.  In fact, the last two seasons, the Tigers have won at Lexington Catholic. Last season the Tigers defeated Bryan Station 28-13 and Logan Butler was named the games’ MVP for his three interception performance. The year before that in 2013, the Tigers defeated the host Lexington Catholic Black Knights 49-28 and Austin Davis was named the games’ MVP.

You’ll have to go all the way back to 2003 for the next game that the Tigers played in this event.  The Tigers beat Scott County 38-6 in that game and Tiger great K.J. Austin-Bruce was named the MVP.  St. Xavier defeated Madison Central 56-3 in 2000 in the Bluegrass Bowl and lost only one time in the history of this event to Covington Catholic in 1999.
