Scouting Henry Clay
Henry Clay Blue Devils
Game details: Aug. 28 (Friday), 6:15 PM, Bluegrass Bowl at Lexington Catholic
Coach: Sam Simpson (23rd Season)
Last year: 7-3; lost to Meade County in First Round
Player to watch: Senior defensive back Davonte Robinson (6-foot-1, 170 pounds) could be the key to the Blue Devils having a break out season. He had 56 total tackles, which led the team in 2014 and had two interceptions as well. Robinson is committed to play at the University of Kentucky and is rated a 3-star by Rivals.com. His 40 yard dash time was clocked at a 4.4 at one of the Rivals.com summer camps and has impressed many college coaches landing offers from Louisville and Notre Dame among others before committing to the Wildcats.
Summer vibe: The Blue Devils won the Track and Field State Championship back in May in dominating fashion in the same meet the Tiger Track and Field Team finished 4th. Many of the speedsters that helped propel Henry Clay to the state title are members of the football team and contribute from skill positions. Robinson’s recruitment has gained the Blue Devils a lot of publicity and all of Kentucky’s fans will be anxious to see how he carries his team this fall. The team as a whole wants this win badly as they have been game prepping for the Tigers since spring ball and want to prove they are one of the top teams in the state in 2015. They think beating St. Xavier will do that for them.
