Today ten members of the tennis team will head to Lexington to compete for the 2015 KHSAA Tennis Championship. The Tigers are looking to win their 7th straight state team championship and 24th overall. The draws were posted earlier Monday and the Tigers have already began to strategize. One seed, Brandon Lancaster headlines the very talented singles draw while four seed, Drew Singerman will look to make it to his first finals appearance. Last year, Drew lost to eventual runner-up Austin Hussey from Covington Catholic in the semi-finals.

Brandon Lancaster defeated Austin Hussey last year in the championship 5-7, 6-2, 10-8 in a grueling match. Lancaster comes into the tournament as the favorite and will be looking to add another piece of hardware.

On the doubles side, duo Matt Graft and Kamron Akrami look to hand out massive beatdowns in their doubles matches. Graft and Akrami enter the tournament as one seeds. Last year, Matt Graft picked up his first doubles state championship with partner Nick Waldeck, who decided not to join the team this year. Ben Gornet and Preston Cameron come in as the three seeds with the ability to upset a few other teams. Gornet and Cameron pride themselves off a strong serve and put away volley. If these two get hot this week, that could mean trouble for the rest of the draw.

If you missed the draws check them out here!!

In the state team semi-finals the Tigers will play last year’s runner-up McCracken County. Provided the Tigers win, they will face the winner of Covington Catholic versus Ashland Blazer. Only 10 Tigers are eligible to participate this week in the team state play. Those who qualified are:

1. Brandon Lancaster
2. Drew Singerman
3. Matt Graft
4. Kamron Akrami
5. Ben Gornet
6. Preston Cameron
7. Spencer Blandford
8. Patrick Koshewa
9. Adam Hardin
10. Andy Keal

These ten players have worked hard this year along with the rest of the team to be in this position. There will be little to no room for error this weekend as the Tigers compete for various championships. We invite EVERYONE out to the Team Championship (provided they win in the Semi-finals) on Friday at 6:30 at UK! Come and watch the Tigers capture its seventh straight championship hopefully!
