It may have snuck up on you, but Tiger Football is back! Today marks the start of the 2015 season and Spring Football at St. Xavier.  Coach Wolford and the boys will be taking the field this afternoon for the first time since November after a long offseason.

A lot of questions surround the team heading into the new season and the beginning of practice this spring.  Many of the starters on both sides of the ball have graduated and their replacements will be found within the next few weeks! Everyone wants to know about the Quarterback position and who will be leading the Tigers into battle this fall.  The early favorite would have to be Senior A.J. Breit who was the backup for Noah Houk last season, but we didn’t see him in the final game of the year against Trinity due to an injury.  Instead we saw Sophomore Desmond Ridder who is a huge kid with tons of potential.  Those two will be battling it out for the starting spot this spring.

Another question with the offense is what type of offense will we see from new offensive coordinator Dave Nurnberg who is moving here from Nashville. A source tells us the new offense could mirror that of another green and gold school that is out on the west coast. That will be exciting to see this spring as the Tigers try to master a new style of offense.

On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of role players will be stepping into the spotlight as THE guys now.  Logan Butler is back to anchor the middle of the defense, but don’t be surprised if you see him being use all over the place, that guy is special. Some safeties have been moved around and linebackers moved into the secondary, but we’ll have a better idea on the personnel changes as we take in a few practices over the coming weeks.

We’ll be taking in the sights and sounds of spring ball from Br. Thomas More Stadium later on and throughout the duration of the allotted 10 practices, so if you have a question you want Coach Wolford to answer or any of the players, tweet us at @WSTXSports, or use the comment section below and we’ll make sure to pass them along to the person of your choosing.
