Tiger Basketball begins a mammoth week with a showdown on the road against the Eastern Eagles. Last time around, Eastern escaped Br. John Wills Arena with an overtime victory, and this year’s reunion will certainly be interesting as well.
Eastern won last year’s contest with outside shooting. Senior eagle guard Cameron Reed torched St. X for 25 points, many of those coming on trey balls. If St. X wants to win this one, it will almost surely have to shut down Reed. If he pops off from deep, the game could turn into a blowout.
Ashanti Burgess will most likely be a big part of a St. X victory, as he has put in at least 19 points in each of the last five games, also shooting above 50% in each tilt as well. However, the Tigers will probably need another guy to step up on offense against such a quality opponent. That extra production could come from junior guard Will Olsen, who has looked great in recent games, or senior guard Josh Rudy, who has the ability to go on a shooting spree.
This game features one team who is young and loves to run (Eastern) and another who wants to slow it down and run set halfcourt plays (St. X), so it will be fun to see which style reigns supreme on the court.
