The Courier-Journal’s Jason Frakes churned out the season preview capsules for all the basketball teams in the Louisville area a couple of weeks ago, but we were in the midst of a Football playoff run, so we held off on posting their coverage of the beginning of the hoops season.

Here now is the breakdown of the Tiger Basketball team’s season ahead according to the Courier-Journal. Enjoy:

Coach: Kevin Klein (seventh year).

Last season: 21-9, lost to Trinity 51-40 in Seventh Region quarterfinal.

Player to watch: Ashanti Burgess, a 6-1 senior guard, is the Tigers’ top returning scorer after averaging 12.2 points last season and also shooting 34 percent (55 of 162) from 3-point range. He also pitched in 4.0 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.9 steals per game.

Other top players: F Lucas Miller (6-4, Sr., 8.7 ppg, 2.7 rpg); F C.J. Shanklin (6-4, Sr.); G Connor McKim (6-2, Jr., 1.7 ppg); F William Olsen (6-3, Jr., 4.1 ppg, 2.0 rpg); G Josh Rudy (6-1, Sr., 1.6 ppg); F Austin Brian (6-5, Jr., 1.4 ppg); F Daniel Ryan (6-5, Jr.); F Nick Kitchen (6-3, Sr.).

Outlook: The Tigers lost four of their top six scorers from last season to graduation, but Klein is expecting Burgess, Miller and Shanklin to emerge as senior leaders. Shanklin missed last season with a knee injury but had a strong summer “and will provide a big lift,” Klein said. McKim will be called on “to handle the ball, score and be a playmaker,” Klein said.
