A trip to Ft. Thomas to take on the Bluebirds of Highlands highlights the 2015 Tiger Football schedule released Wednesday.

St. Xavier will travel to Highlands on Friday Sept. 25 to set up a matchup of two of the winningest programs in the state’s history.  This will one of two games against Northern Kentucky teams in 2015.

For many years, the teams have met on the freshman and junior varsity level, but now this series will pair two of the most winningest high school football programs in the state against each other once again on the varsity level for the first time in nine years.

Highlands football is a part of the fabric of the Northern Kentucky community much like St. Xavier football is here in Louisville.  The Bluebirds have won 22 official Kentucky state football championships and has the nation’s second most wins ever with 855, just 27 behind Valdosta, GA.  St. Xavier is Kentucky’s 6th most winningest program with 723 wins (totals through the 2013 season).  Highlands is currently in Class 4A, but has bounced around classes over the years.  The Bluebirds also have an overall varsity record of 100-5 over the past seven years (2007-2013).

The last time the Tigers and Bluebirds met was on September 6, 2006 at Paul Brown Stadium, the home of the Cincinnati Bengals.  St. Xavier won that match-up 35-21 in the i-wireless Fox 19 Prep Classic.

The Tigers will participate in the Bluegrass Bowl for the third consecutive year on Aug. 28 at Lexington Catholic High School in the other Northern Kentucky matchup.

In non-district play, St. X faces Ryle (Aug. 28), Bowling Green (Sept. 4), Central (Sept. 11), Highlands (Sept. 18), Trinity (Oct. 2) and Cincinnati St. Xavier (Oct. 30).  The Tigers will host only four home games next season at Br. Thomas More Stadium.

New next season is the change in districts for Tiger Football.  Trinity drops from the list of district opponents and is replaced by Pleasure Ridge Park (PRP) and Butler.  The Tigers faced both teams last in 2010 where they defeated the Panthers 27-21 and the Bears 51-7.

Aug. 28 — Ryle (Bluegrass Bowl at Lexington Catholic)
Sept. 11 — at Central
Sept. 18 — at Highlands
Sept. 25 — at Pleasure Ridge Park
Oct. 2 — vs. Trinity at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium
Oct. 9 — at Manual
Oct. 16 — MALE
Oct. 23 — BUTLER
