Former Tigers being inducted into the LCS Hall of Fame tonight
The 3rd annual Louisville Catholic Sports Hall of Fame will take place tonight at the Kentucky Center for the Arts. Among this year’s class of inductees are St. X grads, Joe Koch ’51 and Dicky Lyons, Sr. ’65.
Joe was All-State in football at St. X and a standout at University of Kentucky playing for Coach Paul “Bear” Bryant and earning team captain status in 1954. Dicky is widely considered among the best all-around athletes that Louisville ever produced. He was All-State in football and track and field and an All-American in football at St. X. He was a First Team All-SEC selection in 1967 and 1968 at the University of Kentucky and he played in the NFL.
An additional highlight of the evening is the presentation of the Howard Schnellenberger Family Award, which recognizes one family for their overall contributions to Catholic athletics and to the Louisville sports community. The Musselman family, best known for their prowess on the golf course, was selected this year’s recipient. In a press release, Tom Musselman, Sr. ’54 states “our family is very appreciative of this honor. We would like to recognize our parents for their support and for fostering our love of sports.”
The doors open at 6:00 PM and the event starts at 7:30 PM. WAVE 3 Sports Anchor Kent Taylor ’89 will co-host the evening. Tickets are available at the Kentucky Center for the Arts box office or by calling Sharron Hilbrecht at 718-0988. Tickets are $65 each.
