What Happened 3 Years Ago Today?

On this date, 3 years ago, the Freshman Tiger Football team led by Noah Houk defeated the Trinity Shamrocks 24-21 inside Br. Thomas More Stadium.  What’s so significant about this you might ask?  Well, this was the last time that any level of St. Xavier Football defeated Trinity.  It also happens to be the same group of kids, that are now Seniors, who will be taking the field on Friday night.

We dug back deep into the Louisville Catholic Sports archives to find the recap of the game and it brought back some great memories.  Michael Bennett was the hero that evening with his 39-yard field goal to put the Tigers ahead with under four minutes to play.  It was all St. X the entire game, which we hope to see repeated again at the end of this week.  Noah Houk threw for one touchdown and JR Johnson accounted for one of the two rushing scores on the day.

It has been a long time since we have seen a victory over Trinity on the gridiron, but something just seems different about this year.  Moments like this one, will give the Tigers an edge knowing that they defeated this same group not too long ago.  I’m taking our Seniors over their Seniors.

Oh, you want more pictures from that game? I’ll leave these here.
