Biernesser and Collins throw at Prospect Showcase
More than 70 players convened at Bellarmine University on July 15 for the Kentucky College Prospect Showcase and Prep Baseball Report was there to evaluate the group of pitchers who participated in the event. The following is a look at how two Sophomore Tiger Baseball pitchers faired according to Chris Fuller, PBR Kentucky Analyst.
Jack Biernesser, RHP/3B, St. Xavier HS, 2017
5-foot-11, 165-pound prospect uses medium arm action through a high ¾ arm slot, throws strikes with his 76-77 mph fastball that shows some arm-side run, gets under his 59-64 mph curveball at times that shows gradual 11/5 action, curveball should continue to develop, tends to slow arm on 65-66 mph changeup, good upside on mound and should continue to see additional velocity and development of secondary pitches.
Chase Collins, 1B/OF/LHP, St. Xavier HS, 2017
5-foot-11, 140-pound prospect uses long arm action through a high ¾ arm slot, fastball is mostly straight at 67-69 mph, curveball shows gradual 1/7 action at 58-61 mph and should see continued development, changeup varied between cutting action and fading action, shows fade when he stays behind it at 66-67 mph, changeup needs bigger velocity difference off fastball.
