Tiger Golf is looking for its first state championship in five years.  After holding the runner-up trophy the past two years, this young team is poised for redemption.  Mike Sass and Billy Basham will be the top two guys this year after having state experience, and they will both be only juniors.  A plethora of other players look to accompany them this year.  Many juniors, including Peter Brown, Matt Liston, Allen Hamilton and Drew Kiehl are ready to make the next step and help take home the state title this year.  Seniors Alex Rowland, Jack Berger and Jimmy Gates will add depth and look to make an impact in their final golf season as Tigers.

Sass and Basham have both been active this summer qualifying for national tournaments in Texas.  Sass will compete in the 39th Junior PGA Championship after winning the qualifier with scores of 71 and 72 at Bardstown Country Club.  This event starts on July 27 and will conclude on August 1st. Last years winner was also from Kentucky, and Sass will look to make the first pair of consecutive winners from the same state  since 1993-94, when Pat Perez and Joel Kribel from California did it.  Basham will be participating in the U.S. Junior Amateur tournament at Carlton Woods.  He will play from July 18-26 and is looking to bring home the championship before the St. X season starts up.

The first tournament for the Tigers is on August 1st at the Five Star General Invitational.  Liston is excited for the season to begin.

“We all have been working out together at least twice a week and competing on our own in tournaments.  We are ready.”

The season is short and jam packed with events all throughout the state.  The season will conclude at Bowling Green Country Club on October 11th when the Tigers will hopefully end their five year drought with a state title.
