Dead Period’s News and Views
It may be summer and Dead Period, but there are always things going on in the world of Tiger Sports. Here are a few headlines that we so graciously wrapped up into one post for you, our favorite readers, so that you are caught up on everything that is happening in Tiger Nation. Dead Period concludes Wednesday July 9th so the fall season is right around the corner! Oh I hope you can control your excitement better than I can! Now on to the news and views…
KTCCCA All-State Announced
Tiger Track runners William Mulloy (800, 1600), Chris Striegel (3200), The 3200m Relay Team, and Jake Glass (Shot Put) were named to the 2014 Kentucky Track and Cross Country Coaches Association Boys All-State team last Sunday. Congratulations to all of those guys as they truly earned that honor with such an amazing season in each of those events.
LCS Reviews Tiger Football, Swimming and Wrestling
Louisville Catholic Sports continues to churn out season reviews for all of the sports, the last three have been football, swimming and wrestling. Each have featured great takes on the Tigers’ seasons by the site’s staff writers. Take a look back at each teams’ seasons, especially Tiger Swimming’s historic 50th overall title run this past winter.
Tompkins Earns First Win
Former Tiger LHP Ian Tompkins kept the Greeneville Astros off the scoreboard through the middle innings in last weekend’s Burlington Royals game. Tompkins was recently assigned to the team which is a rookie affiliate of the Kansas City Royals. Tompkins struck out three in one and 2/3 innings of relief to earn his first professional victory of his career!
Tiger Football Opponent Commits to Ohio State
Noah Houk and the Tiger Offense will be facing a scary challenge when they play Cincinnati St. Xavier on the road in the regular season finale October 31st (Halloween Night, see what we did with that pun now?). Bomber linebacker Justin Hilliard is ranked the No. 2 outside linebacker and the 21st overall player in the 2015 class, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings and he just committed to Ohio State this past week. He will certainly be the highest rated player that the Tigers will face this season.
Former Tiger Matt Hillenbrand qualified for the U.S. team that will compete at the NACAC U-23 Championships as he finished 12th in the USATF 1,500m Final with a time of 3:50.31 at the USATF Outdoor Championships last weekend.
The University of Louisville designated their home opener against the Miami Hurricanes a “Blackout”, so that got us to thinking of what themes the Student Activities Council should make for Tiger Football’s home games. Patriotic Night Round 3 is a must, but what other creative themes do you think should be a part of this season.
