Lyons and Koch to be inducted into LCS Hall of Fame
The Louisville Catholic Sports Hall of Fame announced the 2014 class this month that will include state championship-winning players, coaches and administrators. The recipients of the honor will be inducted November 5th at the Kentucky Center for the Arts.
The Hall’s third class consists of Former Tigers Dicky Lyons and Joe Koch.
“This class is just another example of the rich tradition of Catholic athletics in this community,” said Billy Reed, executive editor of Louisville Catholic Sports Network and a member of the Hall’s selection committee. “There are so many deserving individuals for this award and we are excited to honor this outstanding group.”
Lyons played football and ran track at St. Xavier before going on to the University of Kentucky and NFL as a defensive back. You may also know his son Dicky Lyons Jr. who starred at wide receiver a few years ago at Kentucky too. The younger Lyons did not attend St. Xavier. Koch also played football, though long before his counterparts and for Paul “Bear” Bryant at UK during which the Wildcats went 27-13-3.
The Hall of Fame celebration will also include presentation of the Howard Schnellenberger Family Award to the Musselman family, which includes a lineage of Former Tiger Golfers.
