The Louisville Catholic Sports Network chronicles the 2013-14 sports year in review. They will break down every sport, every season, every team’s season ending results in a capsule each weekday until they’re finished.

We’ll make sure to post each of their reviews on the Tiger Sports teams because it has been one heck of a year!  One that we will all remember for a long time!

St. Xavier (Class 3-A State Champs): Before the season started, many expected the Tigers to be dethroned as they lost five seniors from a year ago, but that didn’t happen as the streak continues.

“It feels fantastic,” head coach Chuck Medley said after the state meet. “The last few years we have been so loaded and we graduated five of them last year. Then we come back and we win. Before this season, nobody had ever heard of Ben Metzger, Jack Minogue and William Mulloy. Those are guys that stepped up and made the top 15 in the state.”

Chris Striegel led the Tigers with a second-place showing. The senior finished in 16:00.72, five seconds behind Butler’s Patrick Gregory.

“I tried to catch Patrick on that hill, but I couldn’t catch up to him,” Striegel said. “But he’s one of my good friends and he deserves to win. It’s all right.”

Metzger was St. X’s second-fastest runner and placed ninth in 16:23.93.

“Chris did great,” Medley said. “He just doesn’t have the speed that (Patrick) Gregory has. If they race 100 times, I think Patrick wins 99 times — that’s how fast he is. Gregory is another Jacob Thomson.”

Stephen Kinny (14), Spencer Hayden (15), Minogue (16), Mulloy (20) and Max Mudd (28) were the other Tiger sprinters.
