On June 7, 2014, Tiger Baseball secured their 6th state championship in program history and also Former Tiger Ian Tompkins was drafted by the Kansas City Royals.

Tompkins spoke with Louisville Catholic Sports’ Conor Revell about his experience of being drafted and making the trip to Lexington to see the Tigers bring home the state championship with some of his former teammates.  It is a very good story that proves once again that if you’re once a Tiger, you’re always a Tiger.

I could not be more proud of that team,” Tompkins said. “Me, Shaun (Johnston), Matt (Spalding), and Michael Hellmueller were at the game in Lexington. I drove into Lexington with those guys. I almost had a tear in my eye. I was so happy for the coaches. They came up to us in the stands and said it all started with you guys. You raised the bar for us and the program. Just to hear that felt really good.”
