Scott Padgett, who is 38 and a St. X class of 1994 graduate, is taking over the head coaching job at Samford University.  Samford is located in Birmingham, AL and is in the Southern Conference. He will replace Bennie Seltzer who has spent the last two seasons as the head coach. Padgett has been an assistant at Samford since 2012.

Padgett is the only graduate of St. X who has been drafted in the NBA Draft. The Utah Jazz drafted him in the 1999 Draft, and Padgett stayed in the NBA for the next seven years, where he averaged 4.2 points and 2.7 rebounds per year.

Before his professional career, he played for the University of Kentucky, winning the 1998 National Championship with them his junior season. In his last year at UK, he was a John Wooden All American.
