On Wednesday evening, the JV Lacrosse team faced in-state opponent Manual. The JV team was coming off of a week of rest from Spring Break, and was hoping to continue right where they left off. The beginning of the game did not see much scoring as both sides struggled to find the back of the net. St. X came into this game the clear favorites, but Manual was not going down without a fight. Finally, St. X produced a couple of goals, creating a sturdy lead heading into halftime. St. X finally hit their stride halfway through the third period, scoring four more unanswered goals, giving the team a 9-1 victory over the Rams.

The Varsity lacrosse team came into Wednesday’s game ready to play, having just faced some of Virginia’s best teams during Spring Break. It did not take The Tigers long to get started. Midway through the first quarter, St. X already held a 6-0 lead over the Rams, and they were nowhere close to being finished. The Tigers continued their scoring spree with goals scored by all three attackmen, including Leland Gray who had 3 goals and 4 assists. Other early goals came from Raike Thornewill (6), Collin Roppel (4), Will Roshkowski (2), and Will Edwards (2). At halftime, the Tigers already had a season high 22 goals in the game, giving them a 22-1 lead heading into the intermission.

Because the Tigers scored so many goals, some people may overlook their defense. However, The Tigers would not have scored so many goals if it wasn’t for the turnovers created by the lock-down defense, whose starters were Evan Caffee, Austin Sweeny, Owen Peters, and Max Cartor. The solid defense only allowed 2 goals to the Rams over the period of the entire game. In the end, the Tigers prevailed with a large, tone-setting win against Manual. The final score of the varsity game was 33-2.

The Varsity team improved to 9-3 on the season, staying undefeated in all in-state games. Next up the Tigers face Male on Wednesday, April 16. This matchup should be interesting due to Male’s previous loss to Manual this season.
